JIMMY OLSEN 98 (1966)
by Leo Dorfman & Pete Costanza
This HAS to be the most Silver Age cover ever published.
We begin with Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen doing this.
They’re here to do a story about a jungle movie.
Any chances that this story won’t be incredibly racist?
I should’ve known.
Despite the fact that Jimmy Olsen being in a movie is proven to be a bad idea…
…and that he walks into the set as a complete jackass…
…he STILL gets the part, despite some very sensible objections!
When Silver Age Superman is the voice of reason, you’re officially a complete idiot.
Is it bad to say that this is exactly the way I imagined Silver Age Jimmy would eventually die?
Well at least SOMEBODY likes Jimmy.
Looks like Jimmy will have to go through with the jungle version of a shotgun wedding. A spear wedding?
When Superman saves Jimmy, the natives… mistake him for “the greatest witch-doctor in the Jungle”.
Jimmy wants Superman to throw the gorilla into the past (!!!!!), but Superman has other ideas.
Now I know that we would all want this marriage to go through, but that would be just cruel.
To the gorilla, of course. Jimmy deserves a thousand times worse.
Who’s the biggest troll: Lucy or Superman?
And yes, Jimmy DOES marry the gorilla. Though I think this is only legal in Florida.
Jimmy’s resolution? Convince his wife to throw him off a cliff!
You didn’t have to go that far, Jimmy. Any wife would’ve eventually thrown you off the cliff.
Historical significance: 0/10
In my headcanon, “Bruna” later migrated to Gorilla City and found true love.
Silver Age-ness: 106/10
Currently in second place for Jimmy after issue 86
Does it stand the test of time? 0/10
Stupid Jimmy Olsen moment
HE ALMOST KILLED HIMSELF WITH A BUCKET!!!!
Interesting letters: the competition with Marvel is just becoming nasty.
For what it’s worth, Fantastic Four will begin to outsell Jimmy Olsen in 1969.
