Superboy & LSH era – Comics Archeology

The Legion’s return was popular enough to put them in the title itself: “Superboy” is officially renamed “Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes” from issue 222 to 258.
Just like the previous era this one doesn’t have a clear separation; I’ve decided to use the renaming of the series to just “Legion of Super-Heroes”, with issue 259, as the demarcation.

This era is marked by several changes in writer: Cary Bates and Jim Shooter alternate each other in the beginning, then they are replaced by Paul Levitz in his first run, where he alternates with Gerry Conway and Jim Starlin.

You might think this would hurt the series, but this era continues to rise in quality with several famous storylines including the Pulsar Stargrave and Earthwar sagas, plus several historical moments like a team-up with the JLA and the JSA, the Infinite Man origin, and the marriage of Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl.

Note: The Karate Kid series overlaps publication with this era but it’s treated as an entirely separate thing (because it sucks that much).

Super Friends #17 is also published in this era, but despite having a connection to the Legion it’s not in continuity.
