SUPERBOY 191 (1972)
by Cary Bates & Dave Cockrum
Dave Cockrum begins inking his own pencils, and it definitely shows!
It’s Sun Boy’s birthday party, and his present is a supervillain!
After his last appearance he has gained powers like Sun Boy.
Dr. Regulus is defeated, but he explains that the process that gave him powers is also killing him.
The debut of the totally not inspired by Star Trek new spaceship, the Legion Cruiser. Also note that apparently in the 30th century flowers are out of style for funerals.
Cockrum is really on fire this issue!
And so is Dr. Regulus.
Unfortunately for him Shadow Lass came along, and her shadow powers are so great that she can sever his connection to the star!
And it’s already the end!
Historical significance: 0/10
As you might guess, Dr. Regulus will return.
Silver Age-ness: 2/10
Flowers have been replaced by necro-crystals? What?
Does it stand the test of time? 8/10
Short and sweet. Obviously it would benefit from a higher page count, but other than that it’s fine.
And of course the art is GORGEOUS.
