Lois Lane #125

LOIS LANE #125 (1972)
by Robert Kanigher & John Rosenberger
Cover by Bob Oksner

What is up with the perspective here!?

Looks like Lois is going along just fine with her new roommates. Kristin in particular acts just like Lois would!

Lois sure has her priorities straight. Sure sleepwalking with a knife is one thing, but breaking your diet!? Are you insane!?

Talk about a slow news day!
Also, remember that issue 121 made such a big deal about Lois being a freelance journalist?
Kanigher doesn’t.

The unveiling is tomorrow but they’re putting the statue together today?
Sounds legit.

I get that Lois is used to supervillains and stuff, but can we PLEASE treat “sleepwalking with a knife” a little more seriously!?

Lois then invites her roommates to a lecture about the greatest criminal in history.

I have a suspect.

But the lights go out before the professor can talk about the criminal, and the public goes into panic (mostly because a malfunctioning escalator almost killed some people in an earlier scene).

God bless Robert Kanigher. Who else could come up with this?

The next day the statue is airlifted (???), with Lois catching a ride.

This is, of course, the plan of a criminal biker gang. Because Kanigher.

They try to kill Lois by throwing a grenade at her, but Superman saves her (while taking the opportunity to gloat).

Then Superman murders the gang’s leader with his super breath witnesses the completely accidental death of the gang leader.

But don’t feel bad for him because… uhm, I think he was a Nazi or something?

Wait… Superman, you destroyed the evidence!? WHY!?!?

It’s not like Superman would have a personal interest in erasing the crimes of a Nazi.

And we end with the suggestion that Lois might be sharing the apartment with someone related to the professor (whose last name was Messerschmied).

Why is this more concerning than her sleepwalking with a knife!?!?
It’s not even saying she’s related to a Nazi! It doesn’t even “prove” that she’s of German ancestry… and neither is a crime, so WTF!?

Historical significance: 0/10

Silver Age-ness: 6/10

Does it stand the test of time? 0/10

Stupid Lois Lane moment
I probably sound like a broken record but SLEEPWALKING WITH A KNIFE! BE WORRIED, DAMMIT!!!

Interesting letters: the “Mystery columnist” of Alexander continues, and at this point it’s blatantly obvious that it’s supposed to be satire.

Then again, when I read some of the letters (these are from #126, still on the Mystery Columnist), the line between real letters and satire gets blurry.
