Action Comics #310

ACTION COMICS 310 (1964)
by Leo Dorfman & Jim Mooney

Continuing Supergirl’s quest to save her biological parents.

First step: Kandor, courtesy of a continuity-saving caption!

She retells the entire last issue to the Kandorians.

That takes care of a couple of pages, after which it turns out that her father had friends in Kandor.

Supergirl’s parents are stuck in the Survival Zone, but it turns out that this dimension moves in space (????), and by sheer coincidence it’s on a world built by Superman and Supergirl.

And that’s where Supergirl meets her parents!

Or not, because these are actually android copies which Supergirl just forgot all about. (WTF!?)

The androids give her a Vibro-Projector (batteries sold separately) that can send Supergirl into any dimension, but they refuse to use it.

Or kill her father. One of those.

And that was completely useless because now her parents tell her that the Survival Zone is approaching Earth!

Back on Earth, Supergirl follows her father’s instructions to build and operate a device to bring them back.

Her adoptive parents are secretly overhearing. Her mother wants to stop her (!!!!) but her father is more supportive.

In fact, it’s only thanks to Fred Danvers that Supergirl saves her biological parents!

The *sob*s and *choke*s abound.

Now that her biological parents are back, will Supergirl lose her Earth family?

The Danvers certainly think so!

The Kryptonians are so moved by this that Zor-El decides to lose his powers, thanks to some Gold Kryptonite that Supergirl keeps in a safe!

But Fred is like “What the f##k is wrong with you!?”

It turns out that her biological parents miss living on Krypton too much, so they will move to Kandor and let Supergirl live with her adoptive parents.

I find it hilarious that Superman has lost both sets of parents (since in the Silver Age the Kents die when he’s still Superboy), while Supergirl still has both fathers and both mothers!

*choke*

Historical significance: 10/10
Naturally Supergirl’s biological parents being alive is a big deal, even if they don’t appear as often as you might think.

 Silver Age-ness: 10/10
Did we really need the Vibro-Projector or the Gold Kryptonite parts?

Does it stand the test of time? 6/10
This feels more like the summary of a story than a complete one, with the vast majority of time devoting to recap both the previous issue and Supergirl’s origin (which was ALSO recapped and expanded last issue). At least the resolution made sense, even if we have to go through Zor-El’s first idiotic solution.
