If happened again: after kicking Superboy out of Adventure Comics in the Hamilton era, the Legion is once again the protagonist of a regular series after “Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes” is renamed simply “Legion of Super-Heroes” starting from #259.
Confusingly, this is Volume 2 because there was a three-part miniseries called volume 1 which consisted almost entirely of reprints.
After the rename, the series would last until #313. For the purposes of my retrospective that would be way too many issues to be lumped together.
So I am splitting this into three separate sub-pages: what happens before the Great Darkness Saga, then the saga itself, and then the remainder of the series.
After all many consider the Great Darkness the best Legion story ever told, and its influence on the team is HUGE. It’s also helpful because the majority of the stories set before the saga are written by Gerry Conway, while virtually everything else is by Paul Levitz.
