Marvel Comics Presents #48

MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #48 (1990)
by Dwight J. Zimmerman & Rodney Ramos

Ah, Marvel Comics Presents. The cover story typically starred Wolverine, and his series was actually pretty good most of the time… but in general, this is THE place for throwaway stories.
While it was published in 1990, Doom’s status puts this in the 80s.

Let’s see, this time we have a story about *dice roll* Storm…

…who is worried about *dice roll* acid rain…

…and meets *dice roll* Doctor Doom.

Talk about random.
Storm strikes Doom with a lightning bolt, believing he’s defending the factory responsible for the acid rain, but he’s actually protecting Latveria.

I’m sorry, he’s protecting “Latervia”, not “Latveria”.
So I guess he’s Doctor Dyslexic.

What country sent those tanks? Who is it so set on polluting Latervia?
Why is Doctor Dyslexic at their mercy after just a single bolt?
These are questions for people who care about this story.
Which apparently didn’t include the writer and the editor.

The only explanation is that Storm stumbled upon some kind of propaganda movie that Kristoff is putting on to ruin Doom’s reputation.

It takes Storm doing her thing to save Doctor Dyslexic.

Having the armor disabled by a single shot was embarrassing.
Having Doctor Dyslexic threatened by a gun was insulting.
The fact that HE STILL CARES ABOUT IT is unforgivable.

And so we end with Doctor Dyslexic dismissing Storm, vowing to see her again once he’s king of Latervia.
Whatever the f##k that is.

My first thought at discovering the existence of this story was “this might just be the most unnecessary Doctor Doom appearance I have ever encountered”.

Having read this…

This IS the most unnecessary Doctor Doom story I ever read.

I refuse to even rate this.

Doom significance: ???/whatever

Silver Age-ness: meh/whatever

Does it stand the test of time? blah/whatever

It was a Doombot all along

IT BETTER BE!!!!!
