Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four #3

Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four #3 (2007)
by Jeff Parker & Mike Wieringo

One last bit of housecleaning from the 2000s, but this one was too awesome to skip.

In the previous issues, a peculiar kind of alien invasion started: instead of taking over the planet, the aliens have infected humans and are replacing them.

For reasons yet unclear, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four (along with their supporting cast) are among the few people on the planet not affected by the alien takeover.

Together with a few superhumans that are not going to be of much help.

That was all in issue 2. But in issue 3, the FF discover that the aliens are now concentrating their efforts on the base of the High Evolutionary.

So they go to the High Evolutionary’s base to find if he has anything that can help…

…which he does, although the Evolutionary himself is missing.

Unfortunately, Reed is currently in space on a different quest to stop the invaders.
And Spider-Man, while being incredibly smart, is not Richards smart.

Spidey is the one to suggest asking for help.

To Doctor Doom of course, who is currently busy shooting at his own subjects for NOT resisting the possession!!!

The biggest problem is going to be have Doom actually listen to them!

Everyone else who has proven to be safe from alien possession has superhuman powers, or they’ve been exposed to something that protects them.
Doctor Doom, on the other hand, keeps away the possession… BECAUSE.
It’s not just knowledge of magic: Doctor Strange has also been possessed.
It’s not just because of his willpower: Captain America has also been possessed.
No, it’s because Doctor Doom is SO DAMN STUBBORN.

The Fantastic Four are unable to get Doom to help, but Spider-Man has a genius idea.
Remember how I said Reed is currently in space?

I love this panel! From Doom’s reaction, to Invisible Woman using force fields to shut up the Torch and the Thing!!!

NEXT PANEL:

So Doom lends the FF a gun that can stop the invasion…

…and that’s how Doctor Doom saves the world again!
Yeah it’s ultimately not going to be that simple, but he DOES help.

And that’s it with the intermissions, I promise. If I find another story from the 2000s that I skipped, I’ll review it after the 2010s.

Doom significance: 0/10
Never brought up again.

Silver Age-ness: N/A
Does it stand the test of time? N/A
This is not a real review so I can’t give a real score, but this entire miniseries is HIGHLY recommended!

It was a Doombot all along
You could use the idea that this is not Doom but a Doombot to explain how he’s resisting the alien possession. If you hate fun.

Times Doom has saved the world: 16

Crazy tech
Not Doom’s this time, but that device from the High Evolutionary sure is something!
